Rhinefield house hotel
Why it is interesting: Built in 1887 and set in 40 acres, Rhinefield House in Hampshire, is a 4‐star luxury hotel set deep in the New Forest National Park, among tall conifers and scented pines. It offers 50 bedrooms, an outdoor pool, plus a small indoor leisure facility and pool. With its steeply pitched roof, redbrick chimneys and leaded windows, the design is a blend of Tudor and Gothic, old and new, the romantic and the eccentric. After receiving the annual electricity consumption details for Rhinefield House Hotel, it was possible to give a provisional quote for a powerPerfector unit and to outline the potential for energy savings. A voltage logger was then sent for a little more than a week, which recorded the voltage level at the site. It was found that the average voltage at the site was 243 volts, 13V higher than the nominal supply in the UK.

Why it is interesting: The Hilton Hotel at Manchester Airport features 279 bedrooms, 12 large event rooms, a 20th floor bar, large catering facilities, a fitness suite which contains a fully equipped gym and 20 metre pool. The hotel has a varied load, with televisions, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and lighting circuits. The hotel is likely to have a high load factor considering the long working hours. Following an evaluation process, a 560kVA powerPerfector unit with an 8% Optimisation was installed. A scheduled shut down of the site was required, with the work carried out over a weekend. Following installation all electrical equipment has operated normally and there have been no reports of any problems. With further observation over time, our clients tell us that equipment life can be noticeably extended.
